The #1 Rule of Wedding Planning

The #1 Rule of Wedding Planning is…

You either spend the money to have a professional do it for you or you spend the time and energy doing it yourself.

The goal is to enjoy your wedding day stress free and not have to work at all! Hiring professional vendors takes the stress and hassle away from you. If money is tight and you can’t afford to hire all professional vendors, make a list of your priorities and consider DIY options for the things that are lower on that priorities list.

It’s common for couples planning their wedding on a budget to try to do things on their own and DIY elements of their wedding. There are pros and cons to both options:

DIY: Pros = less expensive. Cons = takes energy and time

Hiring Professionals: Pros = saves you time and stress. Cons = costs money

Let’s take florals for example. When you pay a professional Florist you are paying for their labor which includes selection, preparation, transportation, arrangement and their expertise. They know exactly which flowers are in season during the time of your wedding and what will look best, they know where to get the flowers, they will prepare the bouquets and arrangements for you, they will transport them to your venue and they have all the necessary tools and know how to properly set up the arrangements. Florals are unique as well because all the work has to be done last minute, as to keep the florals as fresh as possible.

I currently am working with a couple planning their wedding. They chose to DIY their own florals. In order to do this, they are building a fence to section off an area of their property, planting all the flowers, maintaining the flowers on a regular basis and come their wedding day we will have to arrange the 15 centerpieces and transport them to the venue. The bride is an avid Gardner and is excited about the process, but that might not be the case for everyone!

I can’t decide for you whether you should spend the money to hire a professional or spend the energy to do it yourself, but I can provide you with the facts so you can make the best decision for yourself. Consider your priorities, skill set and how much time you want to put in when it comes to DIY. If it does not seem worth the stress and hassle to you – hire a professional. You will be happy you did on your wedding day.

Happy Planning!
